Trading news and EAs: a checklist for reading market updates

A market update is more useful when you can tell what was announced, when it happened and who reported it. This is especially important when a news story appears beside Gold, XAU or EA marketing. Use a simple evidence checklist before treating a headline as a product claim or a reason to trade.

Separate the announcement from the interpretation

Start with the issuing organisation and the original release. Record the publication time and distinguish it from the date covered by the release. Then identify which statements are direct facts from that announcement and which are commentary. A central-bank announcement alone does not establish a particular gold-price reaction.

  • Open the original source rather than relying on a screenshot.
  • Check whether the item is new, revised or an older story recirculating.
  • Treat market-reaction claims as separate facts needing separate evidence.

Check what the EA documentation actually says

If an article connects an event to an EA, ask which documented operating rule is relevant. Do not assume that every product has a news filter, pause function or special event mode. Keep a question about the software separate from a forecast about the instrument. Ask support to identify the exact build and setting for any feature they describe.

  • Request the current product documentation.
  • Ask whether the claimed behaviour has been demonstrated.
  • Record what remains unknown instead of supplying an assumed answer.

Keep a source trail

Save the source link, headline, publication time and the date you checked it. For a changed release, note what was corrected rather than silently replacing the old record. Avoid sharing personal account details in examples or comments. A clear source trail makes an article easier to challenge, correct and update.

  • Keep quotation and commentary visibly distinct.
  • Ask for a timestamp and source for any quoted market price.
  • Do not treat an automated summary as independent confirmation.

Do not turn a headline into a signal

A news brief should explain its limits. If a price move, forecast or product outcome has not been established, leave it unclaimed. Educational reporting can help a reader organise questions without giving personalised entry instructions, leverage targets or promised results. The absence of a fresh, well-supported story is a reason to publish nothing rather than recycle a weak one.

Risk and evidence

This article is educational and does not provide personal investment advice. Trading can result in losses. Automated software does not remove trading risk, and a past or simulated result is not a promise of future performance. The FCA describes CFDs, including rolling spot foreign exchange, as high-risk products. Read the FCA information on CFDs and assess the risks independently.
