A Straddle EA backtest is most useful when it can be understood and repeated. Start by asking what was tested, on which data and under which assumptions. A polished result image is only one part of the record, and no historical test establishes a future outcome.
Build an evidence pack
Request the test report, software version, parameter file and test dates together. Record the platform and instrument details. If one piece is missing, note that limitation rather than silently filling the gap. Keep revisions of the evidence pack so that results from different configurations cannot be confused.
- Label each report with its version and settings.
- Ask why the selected time range was chosen.
- Preserve unsuccessful runs as well as selected examples.
Inspect the testing assumptions
MetaTrader provides multiple testing and execution-delay settings. Confirm which were used and whether they resemble the environment being evaluated. Ask for the cost assumptions and any known data limitations. These details are necessary context; they are not evidence that a live result will match the simulation.
- Record the modelling method and data source.
- Ask which commissions and execution delays were included.
- Ask what important conditions the test could not reproduce.

Look beyond the selected headline
Review the complete report and trade sequence instead of using one headline as a decision rule. Ask what happened during difficult periods and how open positions were represented. If several parameter combinations were tried, ask how the final one was selected and whether it was examined on data outside that selection process.
- Separate parameter selection from later evaluation.
- Ask for the criteria used to reject a configuration.
- Keep a list of questions the report cannot resolve.

Keep the conclusion proportionate
A careful conclusion states the conditions actually studied and the uncertainties that remain. Avoid turning a historical observation into a promise, a return target or a claim that another trader should expect the same outcome. Additional review and a controlled demonstration may answer some questions; they cannot remove trading risk.
Risk and evidence
This article is educational and does not provide personal investment advice. Trading can result in losses. Automated software does not remove trading risk, and a past or simulated result is not a promise of future performance.
